The Homeschool Hangout is our in-person homeschool co-op located in San Antonio, TX for families with children ages 5-12.
For Fall 2022, we will have the following offerings:
Chess club/park day
Meets at a local park at 11:15 on Tuesdays for chess club, lunch, and a park day. Kids of all ages can learn to play chess, practice chess stratagies, and play against each other. Bring a chess set or use one of ours! After chess, we'll enjoy a picnic lunch and play at the park.
Boys Adventure Club
This group is a brother group that meets at the same time as our homeschool Girl Scout troop every other Thursday from 1-2:30pm at a local park. Boys will use the "Scouting for Wild Ones" curriculum as well as work on additional projects such as learning knife safety and whittling. There will be a shared supply fee for this group as well as items each boy will need to purchase and bring.
Coding/Electronics class (ages 11+)
This class will meet every other Thursday from 1-2:30 at the Hangout Headquarters. We will use the Arduino student kits to teach middle school students the basics of programming, coding, and electronics. Students will work through nine structured lessons and two open-ended projects. Max 8 students. Cost is $200/fall semester. This is a drop-off program, but parents will be required to volunteer one class each semester.
Science: Motion & Simple Machines class (ages 8-10)
This class will meet every other Thursday from 1-2:30 at the Hangout Headquarters. We will use the hands-on "Motion & Simple Machines" course by The Good & the Beautiful (NOT religious) to explore forces, motion, and simple machines. Cost is $150/fall semester. This is a drop-off program, but parents will be required to volunteer one class each semester.
Play & Learn class (ages 5-7)
This class will meet every other Thursday from 1-2:30 at the Hangout Headquarters. We will use the Homegrown Preschooler curriculum along with Rooted Childhood curriculum to enjoy hands-on, messy, and playful learning. Cost is $100/fall semester. This is a drop-off program, but parents will be required to volunteer one class each semester.
Each book club gathering will include a book discussion, activity or craft project, and a themed celebration. We will have two separate books to engage different age groups and promote literary discussion with peers. Our book schedule will follow the Brave Writer 2022-23 book selections for The Dart and The Arrow.
Each book will have a parent volunteer to host the discussion, activity, and celebration. Book club will take place at the Hangout headquarters one Friday each month at 12:30pm.
Cost is $50/family for the fall semester.

Students will select a person to research and learn about. We will come together on Sept. 19 to share what we've learned. Each student can decide how to present their research; this may include a presentation board, a video, dressing up, a timeline, etc. Each one will be uniquely different! Cost is $10/family.
Students will select a hobby to share with the group. We will come together on Oct. 17 to share about the hobbies. Presentations might include history, demonstrations, videos, interactive activities, performances, etc. Each one will be uniquely different! Cost is $10/family.
Students will become entrepreneurs and open their own handicraft shop on Nov. 30 with items they have handmade. Students will sell items and be able to shop from their friends. Cost is $10/family.
Holidays Around the World Fair
Each family will select a country and research important holidays celebrated in that country. We will come together on Dec. 12 to share about these holidays from around the world. Presentations will all be different but may include dressing up, bringing food items, playing games, etc. Cost is $10/family.
After School Club
The After-School Club is a drop-off group that will meet most Fridays from 12:30 to 3:30pm at the Hangout headquarters (Meghann's house) for kids ages 5-12. These supervised afternoons may include outdoor play, working on craft projects, science experiments, etc. Cost will be $200 per child, per semester. This is a drop-off program, but parents will be required to volunteer one class each semester.
Family Festival Celebrations for Autumn Equinox, Martinmas, and Winter Solstice
We will join in celebrating the changes of the Earth for the Autumn Equinox, Martinmas, and the Winter Solstice this fall. These potluck family celebrations will be a time to enjoy each other's company and grow our connection to community.
